Sea Monsters
National Geographic
2007
National Geographic's IMAX movie, Sea Monsters, explores the world of deep-sea creatures over 250 million years ago. Two features were created as companion pieces for the movie website—a virtual dig and an interactive timeline. The virtual dig takes users on three different excavations, where they can put tools to use to clear debris from the fossils. Throughout the excavations, website visitors learn techniques paleontologists use to reconstruct the appearance and understand the behavior of these ancient animals. The interactive timeline uses maps, animated 3D models, and artist's reconstructions to bring these massive Mesozoic sea monsters to life.
